Should Claude get the keys to your infrastructure?
The interesting part is not that Claude can reach infrastructure, but how tightly that access is controlled.
ORC8R has published an MIT-licensed plugin that connects Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code to its cloud infrastructure platform through remote MCP.
The interesting part is not simply that Claude can reach infrastructure. It is how access is controlled:
- Authentication uses OAuth.
- Read and write capabilities are separated.
- Write access is optional.
- Existing organization roles still constrain every operation.
- Access can be revoked without exposing raw credentials to the model.
ORC8R provisions standardized nodes for GitHub Actions runners, Jenkins agents, Docker, and related workloads. The plugin turns those platform operations into scoped tools instead of handing the model an unrestricted master key.
That makes it a useful blueprint for smaller paid AI tools:
- Keep read and write actions distinct.
- Ask for OAuth consent.
- Require human approval before changes.
- Enforce permissions on the server.
- Make access revocable.
- Never put raw production credentials in model-visible context.
The catch: the product behavior and security claims were not independently tested for this story.
