Epic Games Just Said "No More Hand-Written Code"

Bloomberg reports Epic delayed the shooter from its $1.5 billion Disney deal indefinitely, and switched the team to “AI first”: AI writes the code and makes the art, developers steer and check it.

Epic calls it “AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers.”

Tim Sweeney confirmed a company-wide pivot to “maximum AI acceleration”. His goal: build more and better, not do the same work with fewer people.

Grain of salt: the game details come from internal messages and unnamed sources. No one has shown it’s faster or better yet.

This is the first big test of AI as the main way to build both the code and the art of a major licensed game.
