Claude Duet is Anthropic's agent that works while you're away

On October 21, Anthropic announced Claude Duet, a standalone agent app built on Opus 5.5. You message it a task, and it works in its own cloud computer using the apps you connect. It keeps going after you close the app and checks in when it needs a decision.

Duet sends a morning brief, flags items in your inbox and calendar, and drafts replies for you to approve. Anthropic’s examples include scheduling meetings, finding unpaid invoices, preparing payroll for review and building dashboards or decks. It connects to more than 6,000 tools, including Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe and Shopify.

What’s new:

• It runs on iOS, Android and the web at claude.ai.
• It asks before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting files.
• It carries over the memory and skills from your Claude account.

The catch: It is a waitlisted research preview for US Claude Pro and Max subscribers only. Team and Enterprise plans are left out. Background checks count against your normal usage limits. Anthropic says Duet can misjudge what is urgent, can miss messages that arrive between checks, and is weaker at personal errands like booking tickets.

• A freelancer could try handing it meeting scheduling and have it propose times for approval.
• A shop owner could ask for a weekly sales summary pulled from a connected store.
