Claude now works inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

Claude now edits your Google files in place, so you stop copying text in and out of a chatbot.

Anthropic has launched Claude for Google Workspace in public beta for paid Claude plans. The add-on puts Claude in a sidebar inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, where it can read the open file, work with selected text, cells or slides, and change the file directly.

  • Docs: draft, rewrite and restructure content.
  • Sheets: clean data, build models, and write or repair formulas.
  • Slides: create new slides, tighten existing content and restyle a deck.

Separate beta connectors also let you open, create and edit Google files while working from Claude itself.

The real win is not another AI sidebar. It ends the cycle of copying content into a chatbot, copying the answer back and fixing the formatting afterward.

A practical small-business workflow: duplicate a non-sensitive document, turn it into a lead magnet or project brief in Docs, clean a prospect list in Sheets, build a short deck from approved messaging in Slides, then verify every formula, number, citation and customer claim.

The catch: Claude’s edits are direct edits, not Google suggestions. Turn on “Ask before edits” to approve changes one by one, and use version history to undo them. Long operations cap at six minutes, Firefox is not supported, connected BigQuery sheets cannot be edited directly, and Slides charts arrive as images. Your Workspace admin must also allow Marketplace apps.
