Your AI Can Draw Diagrams Now (Official Excalidraw CLI)

Excalidraw released an official, MIT-licensed command-line tool “for humans and agents.” It answers in JSON by default and reads/writes stdin/stdout, so scripts and AI agents can use it directly, instead of fragile browser clicking.

The 60-second test (no account needed):

1. Have your AI write a tiny .excalidraw diagram (idea → draft → publish)
2. Render it locally to PNG with one command
3. Look at it before you trust it

With an Excalidraw+ account it can also create and update scenes, manage collections and query the audit log.

Safety rule: cloud features need an API key, basically a password to your workspace. Use the most limited key you can, only when you need the cloud.

It’s brand new (about 25 GitHub stars), so expect rough edges. Local rendering needs Node 22+ and a Chrome, Edge, Chromium or Firefox browser installed.
