Uber says AI agents booked just four rides in its busiest week
On its earnings call, Uber said outside AI assistants sent almost no business, even in its busiest week of October.
On Uber’s third-quarter call on November 4, CFO Balaji Krishnamurthy gave numbers for the week of Halloween, the company’s busiest week of October. Rides booked by AI agents came to four trips. Uber Eats got about 500 orders from agents. Over the same week Uber and Uber Eats did about 320 million trips combined, a total that is not limited to agent traffic.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi called the traction “very, very early and very limited.” He said Uber is negotiating terms with AI companies and expects more than 10 assistants over time, up from about eight now. TechCrunch notes that booking a ride in Uber’s own app takes about 50 seconds on average and reordering a favorite meal about 90, so an agent may save little time.
Uber pointed to its own assistants instead. Khosrowshahi said early signs show baskets built with its cart assistant run roughly twice the average size. He framed that as an early signal, not a reported statistic.
This follows DoorDash’s recent report of only a few hundred agent orders.
The catch: The Eats figure is stated loosely on the call (around 500), and Uber gave no numbers from earlier weeks, so the trend is unknown.
What it means for small businesses
- Most orders and rides still come through the platform’s own app, so keep your listing there accurate first.
- Agent traffic is too small to plan around today, but it may grow, so clean menus and hours cost little.
- Be wary of paid “AI ordering” add-ons until real order numbers show up.
